The numbers are in – RA Sushi raises more than $150,000 for cancer research and treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
On behalf of everyone at RA Sushi and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, we’d like to say “thank you” to all who dined at RA during Nicky’s Week and helped raise $156,334 for cancer research and treatment at St. Jude.
The fifth annual Nicky’s Week was held May 24-30 at all 22 RA locations. During the weeklong fundraiser, RA donated 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of Edamame, Shrimp Shumai, Tootsy Maki, FIJI Water, Red Bull, The Republic of Tea, and other select beverages to benefit St. Jude. Since 2005, when Nicky’s Week first began, RA Sushi has raised more than half a million dollars for the children’s hospital.
Nicky’s Week was developed in honor of one of RA’s founder’s nephew, Nicholas Mailliard, a St. Jude patient who passed away on February 28, 2005 after valiantly battling brain cancer. He was 13 years old. Nicky was a celebrated student at Pope John XXIII Catholic School Community and shortly before his death was accepted with honors to the Brophy College Preparatory Class of 2009. He was a pillar of strength and always quick with a joke or a smile. He is missed dearly.
Each year in the United States approximately 12,500 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer. Since opening, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has treated children from all 50 states and more than 80 foreign countries.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization.
