Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of RA Sushi, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us at production@benihana.com if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations for RA Sushi:
a. On the home page, when the Cookies Modal is displayed, focus is incorrectly assigned to underlying elements instead of being constrained within the modal. This disrupts the expected focus order, making it difficult for users relying on keyboard navigation or screen readers to interact with the modal or understand the current context, leading to confusion and inaccessibility.
b. On the home page, when the ‘Find A Table’ form is displayed, it does not receive focus, and instead, focus is incorrectly assigned to underlying elements. This breaks the logical focus order, making it difficult for users to interact with the form and causing confusion, particularly for users relying on keyboard navigation or assistive technologies.
2. WCAG 2.1 SC 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A)
a. On the home page, the Cookies Modal remains visible while allowing users to navigate elements on the underlying page. This breaks the meaningful sequence, as focus should be constrained within the modal, leading to confusion and preventing users from interacting with the page in the intended order, especially those relying on keyboard navigation or assistive technologies. Users cannot close the modal either using a keyboard.
b. On the home page, when the ‘Find A Table’ form is displayed, it stays visible but is not operable using the keyboard. Instead of focusing on the form, users are able to navigate the elements underneath it. This disrupts the meaningful sequence of navigation, causing confusion and hindering the ability of keyboard-only users to interact with the form properly.
3. WCAG 2.1 SC 3.3.1 Error Identification (Level A)
a. On the home page, when using the ‘Find A Table’ form, users are not informed that they must select a different time to continue with the reservation process. The lack of error notification prevents users from understanding why they cannot continue, leading to confusion and a poor user experience.
b. On the home page, when filling out the ‘Your Details’ form, users are not informed that a specific field is required until after they navigate out of the field. This delayed feedback can lead to confusion, as users may not realize the field was required.
c. On the home page, when using the ‘Reservation Sign-In’ form, users are not notified that an invalid character has been entered in the email field. This leaves users unaware of the issue, which prevents them from correcting the error and completing the sign-in process.
d. On the order page, within the ‘Delivery Address’ form, users are not alerted when required fields are left blank or when invalid information is entered into validation fields. The lack of proper error messages prevents users from identifying and correcting input errors, which creates a barrier to completing the form, especially for those relying on screen readers or other assistive technologies for feedback.
4. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable (Level AA)
a. On the home page, when using the ‘Your Details’ form to make a reservation, users are not informed by the screen reader that the time limit to complete the reservation is about to expire. This lack of notification leads to a potentially incomplete transaction.
5. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A)
a. On the main menu, at the bottom of the page, there are no bypass mechanisms available to skip content, meaning keyboard users must manually navigate through all of the content. Additionally, the “Back to Top” link is only presented after navigating through the entire sections, further limiting efficient navigation for users relying on keyboard or assistive technologies.
6. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A)
a. On the locations page, the ‘Advanced Search’ element is not accessible using a keyboard. Users cannot navigate to nor operate this element without a mouse, which restricts access for users who rely on keyboard navigation.
7. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level AA)
a. On the locations page, within the ‘Find Location’ form, the focus indicator is not visible when navigating through the ‘Reset All Filters’ link, ‘Show All Locations’ link, ‘Location Page’ link and other elements. This lack of visible focus makes it difficult for users relying on keyboard navigation to know which link is currently active.
